CITING SOURCES & WORKS CITED

Learning Goal

- Students will be able to correctly cite sources for their research.

Citing sources is more than just putting in a URL (which is what we've done so far). Citations give credit to authors and allow readers to check your sources of information. A full citation includes information like the author, title, publisher, dates, and page numbers, depending on the type of source.

Rules:

APA and MLA are sets of rules for citing your sources. You choose one based on the type of paper you are writing. We will use MLA in this class.

Help:

- Within the first couple pages of most books there should be a copyright page, which will have all your citation information.

- On many Web sites, citation information can be found at the very top or very bottom of the page.

- Remember to use the most recent copyright date or year.

- You won't always be able to find every piece of information for a citation. After you make an HONEST attempt to find something (eg. author, volume, edition) and you can't, skip it and move on to the next item.

.. This could mean the source you're using isn't the best
